Chennai: In a matter of pride to the neighbourhood, environmentalist G Gayatri, was recently honoured by the city’s Deputy Commissioner of Police, for her contribution to the welfare of the society.
The resident of Sundaranandhar Avenue, Medavakkam, Gayatri, runs the Dhrishyaa Charitable Trust, through which she provides sponsorship for Maithree, a special school, and is also the correspondent of Sahasras Pre-School in the locality.
Having planted more than 1,200 saplings in-and-around the neighbourhood, under the ‘Green Pragati’ initiative, the multi-faceted woman speaks to News Today.
“In 2017, I planted a few saplings at Ishwarya Garden, Medavakkam. I monitored and watered those plants regularly. After seeing my efforts, many residents came forward to take care of these. I encouraged the locals who helped me in this, with awards,” she states.
Apart from her pursuits in conserving the environment, she is also popular for her strides in education. A graduate in MCA, MBA, MA, MD, M.Ed, M.Sc, PGDAIT, she works as a healing therapist too, having conducted panic healing therapy at various colleges and schools.
On this, she says, “When youngsters pursue education with utmost passion, no one degree will be an end to it. All the courses that I studied, are helping me now in one way or the other. Likewise, I suggest students to not stick with one field alone, but perceive education with a broader view.”
Being a volleyball champion, she stresses about the importance of physical activity to lead a healthy life. “Walking for atleast an hour daily would do good,” she notes, adding that it is because of ‘good’ people in her life, that she could achieve.
“I am able to juggle between all these only due to their support,” she concludes.
