Chennai: The Medical Department of Southern Railway conducted a beneficiary identification and awareness drive at Dr MGR Central Railway Station, Tuesday, in connection with Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) programme.
A number of contractual staff from various Railway departments including porters (Sahayaks) and safai karmacharis attended the camp and were identified as beneficiaries under the programme. Seven Railway Hospitals from Southern Railway have been empaneled for implementation of the programme, said officials.
According to a press release, National Health Agency has identified 91 Railway Hospitals and Health Units spread across 16 zones of Indian Railway for rendering universal healthcare to about 10.74 crore poor, deprived rural families and identified occupational categories of urban workers’ families. These hospitals will implement the PMJAY scheme providing a cover upto Rs 5 lakh per family per year, for secondary and tertiary hospitalisation and cashless access to healthcare services at the point of service to eligible individuals.
The government had launched PMJAY in September 2018. So far, over 3.72 crore beneficiary e-cards have been generated under the scheme.
The one-day camp was launched in the presence of Southern Railway officials, Principal Chief Medical Director Dr B P Nanda, Medical Director Dr Nirmala Devi, Chief Health Director Dr CVN Murthy, Chief Medical Superintendent Dr M Nanda, Additional Chief Medical Director Dr Anandan, Station Director Guganesan.
Dr Manivannan from the State Health Authority and Apurva Mahajan representative of the National Health Authority along with MD INDIA Health (Pvt) Insurance Co Ltd general manager Sai Nath, were also present during the awareness camp.
