Four in AP dupe politicians by making spoof calls, arrested

Visakhapatnam: Palasa YSRC MLA Sidiri Appala Raju and TDP legislator Bandaru Satyanarayana Murthy were duped by a gang of four by allegedly duping them by making spoof calls. The cyber crime police arrested the members, which was led by a B.Tech dropout Pandiri Vishnu Murthy. Rs 5.8 lakh in cash, 28.22 gm of gold and five mobile phones were seized from the accused.

While Raju lost Rs 15 lakh, legislator Bandaru Satyanarayana Murthy lost Rs 10 lakh. According to media reporters, the four persons on 6 and 7 June used Voice Over Internet Protocol to make the spoof calls posing as personal secretaries of Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and the former CM N Chandrababu Naidu. They had allegedly told the victims that the leaders wanted them to give the money.

The associates of both the leaders delivered the cash as ordered by the culprits. Later they found out about the fraud after checking with the secretaries. The cyber crime police tracked the culprits with their mobile phones and arrested the four.

During investigation, it was revealed that the accused had made similar calls to several other party functionaries, such as Yelamanchili MLA UV Ramana Murthy and Vizag MP MVV Satyanaranayana. However, they were cautious and when Satyanarayana tried to nab the culprits by setting a trap they did not turn up.
