Chennai: The city police are trying to trace two women who posed as customers and stole 150 grams of gold from a jewellery shop on Thiruvottiyur High Road, Washermenpet.

According to the police, the shop is owned by Tarun Kumar. Yesterday, his father was taking care of the shop when two women came in to check out a few gold accessories.

The police said the women were middle-aged and wore sarees. They kept asking to see more and more designs.

While one woman was sitting on a chair across the counter, the other woman remained standing. While Tarun’s father turned to take out more boxes, the woman who was standing leans over the counter and picks up a few boxes and hides them.

In a few minutes, the women leave, saying they did not like any of the designs.

The police said the stolen gold is worth Rs 5 lakh. The CCTV footage in the shop has captured the incident in which the faces of the culprits are visible.

The Washermenpet police have registered a case.
