Chennai: Ashok Nagar-based V V Charitable Trust celebrated World Environment Day at Lady Willingdon Higher Secondary School, Triplicane, Friday (14 June).
It was a unique green revolution day with a difference. As many as 111 girl students took the responsibility of taking care of the same number of saplings.
A total of 50 tree plants, 34 medicinal plants, and 27 flowering plants were planted by 111 children.
Volunteer group from Fidelity Incorporation and student volunteer group from Daksh Sastra University joined hands with V V Charitable Trust and Lady Willingdon Higher Secondary School for the noble cause.
The highlight of the event was all the 111 girl students were seen wearing a green cap with a special identity card.
The function was presided by DEO of Chennai, Vetri Selvi, along with V V Charitable Trust trustees A V R Varadan and Sudha Varadan.
School headmistress Eswari Bhoopalan thanked the VVCT members for planting the 111 saplings and also assured they will maintian the plants. She thanked the Eco Club representatives and Subhasree Vijay for the support.
