We will invest Rs 260 cr, double retail network in 4 years: Major Brands

Chennai: Leading franchisee for premier international fashion brands, Major Brands India Pvt. Ltd., is on an expansion spree, with new brand launches.

The firm that already has 200 plus outlets, opened their latest store in Chennai. News Today had an email interaction with Tushar Ved, president of Major Brands India Pvt. Ltd., to uncover the factors that pulled the brand towards the city, expansion plans, among others.

Tushar was asked the reason for choosing Chennai to open their new store and he said, “Chennai is an upcoming city with a great mix of cosmopolitan crowd. It’s a growing market for beauty and essentials. We looked for the best properties here like Express Avenue and VR Chennai, that attract the right audience and metropolitan crowd.”

Speaking about the response the firm has received so far, he said, “With our first store opened up in Express Avenue, we saw tremendous response. There were huge queues lined up to shop on the opening day. This tells us that Chennai has potential and is growing.”

“With our marketing efforts of massive first hand customer experience zone, radio, bath and body works is sure to see growing success in the city,” added Tushar Ved.

Asked about the firm’s expansion plans in the near future in India, he said the next store opening is scheduled to happen in July at VR Chennai, post which the firm is to open an outlet in Pune, followed by more stores in Mumbai and Delhi.

When questioned upon the long-term aims for the franchise, Tushar Ved said Major Brands (India) will invest around Rs 260 crore over the next four years to expand its retail network.

The brand is also, in the near future, aiming to setup a warehouse in south India and will also, after launching outlets in major cities, foray into tier II cities.

“We want to double our retail network in four years’ time. Currently, we have 160 standalone outlets for different brands. In addition, we are also present in several big retail outlets under the shop-in-shop model,” Ved said.

The firm’s president also said, apart from retail sales, gifting is a big segment for which the company will be talking to various corporates.

The company represents several international lifestyle brand products in India and has introduced brands such as Aldo, Aldo Accessories, Charles & Keith, and Inglot to name a few.

Before signing off, Tushar was asked the biggest challenge for firms like Major Brands in the country. He replied, “Challenge is getting the right retail spaces.”
