Bedi orders Vigilance probe into expenditure by PSUs for Ministers’ offices

Puducherry: Based on a representation by NGO Human Rights Awareness organisation, Kiran Bedi, Puducherry Lt Governor, ordered a vigilance probe into the expenditure by PSUs, owned by the Union government, to meet amenities in offices of some Ministers.

The NGO alleged that based on the information by the RTI, Rs 3.6 lakh expenditure was reportedly incurred by Pondicherry Industrial Promotion Development & Investment Corporation for facilities of the Revenue and Industries Minister M O H F Shah Jahan’s office.

It also alleged that last year, between April and July, Adi Dravidar Development Corporation of the government had met the expenditure of Rs 15,980 incurred by the office of Welfare Minister M Kandasamy. It was apparently for supply of tea to visitors at his office. The Council of Ministers should spend money for the requirements of Ministers’ offices and PSUs funds should not be utilised for it.

Following this, Kiran Bedi yesterday ordered a Vigilance probe into the matter. Bedi issued a WhatsApp message, saying whoever breaks rules is accountable. Public officials facilitating violation of rules relating to expenditure are accountable.
