Congress slams Modi for remarks on Narasimha Rao and Gandhi family

Hyderabad: “PV Narasimha Rao ji tried to politically suppress the family, Sonia Gandhi ji and Congress party, which helped him become Prime Minister. He tried to sideline that family (fearing) he might not get Prime Minister’s post again,” said AICC secretary G Chinna Reddy yesterday.

His statement comes a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi slammed the Congress of neglecting party members, especially former prime minister P V Narasimha Rao.

Reacting to this, Reddy claimed Sonia Gadhi had made Rao the prime minister but he had sidelined the Nehru-Gandhi family during his tenure. Reddy further blamed Rao for the Babri Masjid demolition when he was the PM, and because of this Muslims were alienated from the Congress.

Modi reacting to charges that his government was not recognising contributions of Congressl leaders, Hit back at the opposition party saying his government had given Bharat Ratna to veteran Congress leader and former president Pranab Mukherjee. But Congress honour former prime ministers Rao and Manmohan Singh.

Responding to this, Reddy said Mukherjee was a great parliamentarian and a great administrator, he was given the Bharat Ratna after he accepted an RSS invite to speak at its meeting in Nagpur.
