New Delhi: Presenting the Union Budget, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said for those who don’t have PAN card, Aadhaar cards can be used wherever they require to use PAN.
“More than 120 crore Indians now have Aadhar card, therefore for ease of tax payers I propose to make PAN card and Aadhaar card interchangeable and allow those who don’t have PAN to file returns by simply quoting Aadhar number and use it wherever they require to use PAN,” said Nirmala.
It is to be noted that in 2018, the Supreme Court had ruled Aadhaar valid, but only for limited purpose.
NRIs to be issued Aadhaar cards on arrival to India
The Finance minister also proposed that Aadhaar cards would be issued to non-resident Indians holding Indian passport on their arrival in India. “I propose to consider issuing Aadhaar cards for NRIs with Indian Passports after their arrival in India without waiting for mandatory 180 days,” she said in her speech.
