Medical counselling starts in Tamilnadu

Chennai: Medical counselling for MBBS and BDS admissions commenced today. The wards of former military personnel, students from sports quota and differently-abled are taking part in the first round.

The total number of seats are 5,400 MBBS seats and 1,940 BDS seats in both government and private institutions. In the State quota pool, 3,968 MBBS slots have been allocated. There are 24 government colleges (23 – MBBS, one – BDS) and 31 private institutions (13 – MBBS, 18 – BDS) in Tamilnadu.

The rank list was released Saturday and is also available online at www.tnhealth.org, following which State Minister for Health and Family Welfare C Vijayabaskar announced that an all-party meeting would be held today at 5.30 pm to discuss the reservation for economically weaker section (EWS) among the open category. It would be presided by Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami.

Meanwhile, observing Organ Donation Day in the city today, Vijayabaskar said, “State Fisheries Minister, D Jayakumar and I have pledged our organs.”

Addressing media personnel, he added, “Tamilnadu is the front runner in organ donation and transparency is maintained throughout the process. The State has been consecutively four times in the best performing category from the Centre.”
Vijayabaskar assured of taking measures to expand the 108 ambulance service in Tamilnadu.
