Plastic ban: NGO distributes cloth bags to college-goers

Cloth bags were distributed to students during the awareness campaign held at MCC, Tambaram, recently.

Chennai: Utkarsh Global Foundation, a non-profit organisation based in Mumbai, is collaborating with Tamilnadu Government for the implementation of plastic ban in the State.

As a part of the collaboration, Utkarsh Global Foundation will be conducting awareness programmes in schools, colleges and public places, along with free distribution of cloth bags. They plan to cover 295 educational institutions in Tamilnadu for the campaign, a press release said.

The NGO visited Madras Christian College at Tambaram recently and conducted an awareness programme which included an informative talk on the effects of plastic pollution on the environment and how it affects the health and survival of not just human beings but also animals, both land and marine.

Utkarsh Global Foundation distributed around 10,000 cloth bags to students to motivate them to shun use of plastic bags, the release said.
