Panneerselvam reveals TN’s stand on 10% quota

Chennai: Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam today said the 10 per cent reservation for the Economically Weaker Sections in medical admissions will be accepted if it does not affect the backward class people.

Answering a question raised by DMK legislator Durai Murugan during the zero hour in the Assembly today, Panneerselvam said the scheme will be rejected if it affects the backward class people and a decision will be taken after legal consultation.

Durai Murugan also questioned why a few parties were not called for the all-party meet in this regard Monday.

Replying, Panneerselvam said, “Originally the meeting was planned to be held only with the representatives from recognised parties. However later, based on the suggestion by DMK president M K Stalin, a few other parties were also invited to know their opinion on the issue,” he said.

Panneerselvam also assured that measures will be taken to ensure that no party will be left out next time.
