Special train, carrying 25 lakh litres of water, leaves for Chennai

Chennai: The water special train of Southern Railway left Jolarpettai for Chennai today with 25 lakh litres of water.

To manage the water crisis plaguing the metropolis, it was decided to bring water from the Cauvery combined water scheme from Mettuchakkarakuppam via train.

It is proposed to bring 1 crore litre water every day from Jolarpettai by train to Chennai that sees people scrambling for water every day.

According to reports reaching here, the water special train was decorated with flower garlands and banana plants. Poojas were performed before the train was flagged off by a water board official from Jolarpettai this morning.

It is expected that the train, comprising 50 wagons, will reach Villivakkam through the Bengaluru – Chennai route. According to reports, it would take about 5-6 hours for the train to reach its destination.

The water will be transferred to Kilpauk waterworks in Chennai to be treated before being supplied to the public.
