No proper protective kit provided, allege conservancy workers

Chennai: Conservancy workers are working without proper personal protective gear in K K Nagar, Chennai, and it poses health risk for them.

They allege that the Corporation does not provide them with proper kit and even if it did, it would last only 15 to 20 days due to its poor quality. “I have been collecting waste door-to-door for a very long time and they (Corporation) did not provide quality gear,” said a conservancy worker at K K Nagar.

He added that the civic body provides gloves and masks once a year, but the product would be sub-standard.
“The problem lies with not only the Corporation but conservancy workers, too,” allege residents welfare association members of the locality.

News Today spoke to various residents welfare associations in K K Nagar and they claimed, “Workers are not using the gear given by the civic body. Some associations have been felicitating conservancy workers for their exemplary work and even provide new clothes or gifts.”
