Coimbatore: Even as various political parties in the State are criticising the Centre’s draft National Education Policy (NEP), a Dravidian outfit activists yesterday protested at the venue of a workshop being held on the policy.
While the workshop was being held at a college in the district, Thanthai Periyar Dravid Kazhagam general secretary K Ramakrishnan and a few activists entered the venue and questioned why the event was being held without the presence of all stakeholders. He further alleged the organisers of the event had invited only those who were supporting the policy.
According to a media report, the workshop was held on the directives of State Council of Education Research and Training. The aim of the event was to elicit views from various stakeholders from eight western districts of the State. Headmasters of District Institute of Education and Training from the districts and others took part in the workshop.
The report said, students, teachers, parents, education officials, school headmasters could not be invited to the workshop as information on event was received late. It is to be noted that the opposition party in the State DMK has been vehemently criticising the policy saying that Hindi was being imposed through draft NEP.
