Chennai: Tamilnadu political parties are gearing up for the Vellore Lok Sabha election to be held on 5 August. However, Makkal Needhi Maiam yesterday announced that the party would contest in the polls.
The party led by Kamal Haasan issued a statement saying it would focus on the assembly polls instead.
Referring to the Election Commission of India rescinding the general election in Vellore following alleged complaints of distribution of large amount of money, MNM said no action was taken regarding the issue. This has reduced the people’s faith, said the statement.
“Under this situation, it is vital to uphold the faith of the people. MNM is concentrating on the same. It is focusing on contesting the assembly elections,” added the statement.
