Day 23: CM to visit Kanchi for Athi Varadar darshan (video)

Chennai: It is day 23 of Athi Varadar darshan in Kanchipuram and people have still not have had their fill of the beautiful idol of the Lord.

Today, the deity was decked in light green silk robes and flowers practically covered His whole body.

Tamilnadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami is visiting the Sri Varadaraja Perumal Temple to have a darshan of Lord Athi Varadar as also see for himself the arrangements for devotees in Kanchipuram.

There have been charges of bad management on the part of the Kanchipuram district administration and Collector K Ponniah. Five people are said to have lost their lives in the crush of human beings waiting to have darshan of the deity that is taken out of the temple tank only once in 40 years. The darshan lasts only 48 days and the idol is buried in the tank once again, only to rise after 40 years.

Security was tightened for the Chief Minister’s visit, according to reports reaching here which added that the crowds were much thinner today.
