Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami today launched the first battery-operated car of Hyundai in Chennai. The car, named Kona, is priced at Rs 25 lakh.
Palaniswami took a ride in the car after launching it at the Secretariat. It is said the car can travel 452 km if the battery is fully charged for six hours.
Hyundai is said to be in talks with IndianOil to set up charging stations at its fuel outlets to charge the car.
Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, Industries Minister M C Sampath, Chief Secretary K Shanmugam and other top officials were present at the launch of the car.
During the Global Investors Meet 2019, Hyundai inked a pact with the Tamilnadu government to carry out expansion at Rs 7,000 crore in the State.
