Chennai: Acting on the orders of the court, Nalini Sriharan, one of the seven convicts serving life sentence in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, was let out of the Vellore prison for women on a month’s parole.
Nalini, who had sought six months parole to make arrangements for her daughter’s wedding in London, argued her case in the Madras High Court by herself. On 5 July, the court agreed to grant parole but for only a month.
The parole order reached the Vellore prison this morning and Nalini emerged out of prison at 9 am, dressed in an orange saree.
She came out of the prison with heavy police escort and, according to reports, would be staying at the residence of Dravida Iyakka Thamizhar Peravai state general secretary Singarayan in Sathuvacheri, near Vellore.
The court had imposed certain conditions on Nalini. One of them was that she should not have any interaction with the media during the time she is out on parole.
