RS members from Tamilnadu take oath in Upper House in Tamil

Vaiko taking oath as RS member

Chennai: Rajya Sabha members, elected from Tamilnadu, took oath today in the Upper House in the presence of Chairman and Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu.

All the five members took oath in Tamil.

Two persons from the DMK – M Shanmugam and P Wilson – and MDMK general secretary Vaiko took oath this morning.

Ironically, Vaiko pledged to owe allegiance to the sovereignty of India. He was recently convicted and sentenced to one year in prison in a sedition case and for speaking against the sovereignty of India.

For the AIADMK, A Mohammed Jan and N Chandrasekaran took oath as Rajya Sabha members.

The vacancies in the Upper House arose following the retirement of five members – T Rathinavel, V Maitreyan, K B Arjunan, R Lakshmanan (all AIADMK), D Raja (CPI) – and due to the resignation of DMK’s Kanimozhi following her election to the Lok Sabha from Thoothukudi.
