Tirubelveli: Chepauk Super Gillies defeated iDream Karaikudi Kaalai by 54 runs and notch up its second successive victory in the 4th Sankar Cement Tamilnadu Premier League (TNPL) at the ICL Sankar Nagar Ground here on Friday.
Openers Ganga Sridhar Raju (54 off 38 balls, 6 fours, 2 sixes) and KH Gopinath (55 off 40 balls, 4 fours, 2 sixes) played lead roles to help CSG post 175 for eight in 20 overs, its highest of the season surpassing the 148 it recorded against Ruby Trichy Warriors. Fast bowler G Periyaswamy (3-0-9-2) ensured the 2017 champion was in the ascendancy by dismissing both the KK openers, V Aditya (2) and Anirudha Srikkanth (12), in his first two overs.
Kaalai’s top-scorer was M Shajahan (27) and its best partnership was worth 28 runs between Yo Mahesh (22) and S Swaminathan (17 not out) for the eighth wicket.
