Chennai: Today is the 31st day of Athigiri Vaibhavam in Kanchipuram. The idol of the Almighty will be in sayana thirukkolam for the last day today. From tomorrow, the idol will give darshan in ninra thirukkolam.
All arrangements are being made by the district administration for hassle-free darshan from tomorrow.
On 1 July, the idol of Athi Varadar was kept in sayana thirukkolam in the Vasantha Mandapam of the Sri Varadaraja Perumal Temple.
In the last 30 days, over 45 lakh devotees offered prayers.
President Ramnath Kovind, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Durga Stalin, wife of DMK president M K Stalin, among others had darshan at the temple. This morning, Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam was at the Kanchi Varadarajaswami temple to offer prayers.
To make preparations for ninra thirukkolam tomorrow, all drashan will be stopped by 5 pm today. The dharma darshan queue closed at noon.
The temple authorities will undertake preparations and the idol will be placed in ninra thirukkolam by tonight. Devotees can have darshan from 5 am tomorrow .
The district administration is taking all precautionary measures as it expects a large number of devotees from tomorrow. Additional police personnel will be deployed. More barricades will be put up. Adequate drinking water facilities will be provided. Bio-toilets have been set up at many places.
The idol of Athi Varadar will be returned to the temple tank after 17 August.
On the 31st day of the Athi Varadar vaibhavam today, the idol was decked up in yellow silk robes. Devotees gathered in large numbers for darshan and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam was among the VIPs who offered prayers.
