Chennai: In a bid to cover longer distances under season tickets pass for commuters, the Southern Railway has issued sanctions to certain routes. As per existing rules, season tickets are issued upto a maximum distance of 150 km.
Recently, Railway Board delegated powers to General Managers of Zonal Railways to decide exemptions in the distance limit beyond 150 km to a maximum distance limit of upto 160 km.
Acceding to the demands from various Rail Passenger Associations, the General Manager, Southern Railway has accorded sanctions on following routes in Chennai Division.
According to a press release, the sanctions are from Chennai Central to Melalathur via Arakkonam and Katpadi for a distance of 158.81 km, Chennai Egmore to Gudiyattam via Chennai Park-Chennai Central, Arakkonam and Katpadi for a distance of 155.36 km.
Also from Chennai Egmore to Gudiyattam via Chennai Park – Chennai Beach-Washermanpet, Arakkonam and Katpadi for a distance of 159.91 km. UTS Mobile App Bookings can also be used for availing season tickets in the above sections.
