Mobile, SIM card seized from Puzhal prison during police raids

Chennai: The city police conducted raids at Puzhal prison this morning where they found a phone, SIM card and charger buried near a tree inside the campus.

According to sources, the items were seized near the cell where ‘Police’ Fakruddin (42) was lodged.

It is said, a bottle of pickle was kept near the tree to identify the spot which was dug up. Further investigations were on.

Fakruddin and his two associates, Bilal Malik and Panna Ismail, were involved in five murders, including those of four leaders of Hindu outfits, in different parts of the State in the last few years.

They are lodged in the high security-1 prison in Puzhal. In February, Fakruddin was admitted to Government Stanley Hospital after he suffered chest pain.

The police have been conducting regular security checks within the Puzhal campus after it came to light that mobile phones and SIM cards were regularly being smuggled into the campus and the inmates were even intimidating people through phone calls.

In September last year, pictures of the ‘luxury life’ inside the Puzhal Prison went viral on social media. The pictures showed inmates enjoying things such as casual clothes, ‘delicious home-made food’, radios, ceiling fans, DVDs, beds, cots, chairs, curtains, costly shoes and coolers.
