Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami today wrote a letter to Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar seeking him into intervene and secure the immediate release of Adithyaa Vasudevan, a sailor from Chennai who is detained by the Iran’s Revolutionary Guards.
In his letter, a copy of which was released to the media here, Palaniswami said, “I bring to your kind attention the plight of Adithyaa Vasudevan, aged 27 years, who hails from Chennai, Tamilnadu. He was taken into custody along with 22 other Sailors, 18 of them are Indians, when their ship ‘IMPERO’, an UK registered ship was detained by the Iran’s Revolutionary Guards. It is reported that Adithyaaasudevan, working in the ship ‘IMPERO’ as Third Officer was sailing from Fujairah, UAE to Jubail, Saudi Arabia and was detained on 19 July, 2019 along with 22 other Sailors (including 18 other Indian crew) at Strait of Hormuz by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards.”
The letter further said the father of Adithyaa Vasudevan has represented to the government of Tamilnadu for his early release and repatriation.
“I request your good office to direct the authorities concerned and secure the immediate release and repatriation of Adithyaa Vasudevan and other sailors to India,” it added.
