Many civil service officers drink & drive: Kerala minister

Alappuzha: A day after IAS officer Sriram Venkitaraman was arrested for killing a journalist in a road accident, Kerala PWD Minister G Sudhakaran stated that there are similar type of people like the IAS officer who drink and drive.

They consider themselves as God, but they are just human beings, slammed the minister.

The minister further pointed out that people should not think that the character of a person would improve if he or she has cleared IAS examination, it is just an exam. It is to be noted that, in 2017, the minister had said that IAS officers were mentally unstable.

Venkitaraman was arrested Saturday after a car he was driving in an allegedly inebriated condition fatally knocked down a journalist in Thiruvananthapuram.

The 33-year-old IAS officer, who was appointed Survey Director by the State cabinet on Thursday, was booked under sections 279 (rash driving on a public way) and 304 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
