Chennai: On pretext of removing a bad omen from the family, a gang of fake godmen robbed a family in Neelankari. The police arrested a man in connection with the case.
According to the police, Chandrapal Pandian, a bank officer lived in Neelankarai with his family. He had lost his son five years ago. Recently, the family travelled to a temple in Thiruvannamalai for a pooja. At the temple, a godman had noted the family’s address and promised to do a pooja for them at their residence to ward off any bad omen from the family.
On 21 July, five godmen came to the house in the pretext of performing poojas. They asked the family to display gold available in the house. Four sovereigns and Rs 1,000 was kept during the pooja. However, the men slipped out of the house and escaped.
Subsequently, a police complaint was filed. The police traced the vehicle used by the men with the help of CCTV footage near the house. Using the registration number they tracked a man identified as Senthil from Katpadi, Vellore.
He told police one Joseph from Thiruvannamalai had used the vehicle recently. Police arrested him and seized the car. Police are on the look out for his accomplice Udayakumar.
