Coimbatore: Areas in and around the city witnessed continuous rain for the last five days. AIADMK leader and Local Administration Minister S P Velumani visited the affected areas to take stock of the situation. He also distributed welfare measures, such as food articles, clothing like bed sheets, sarees and dhotis, to 65 people sheltered in a government school near Thondamuthur.
Speaking to reporters, the minister said the areas in and near the city were not much affected, and stagnant water on the roads and low-lying areas were removed using generators. He further assured that the government was geared up to tackle any emergency situation during the rain.
Meanwhile, two buses carrying 60 sanitary workers were sent to badly hit Nilgiris. the buses were flagged off by the city corporation commissioner Sravankumar Jathavat.
DMK president M K Stalin accompanied by local MP A Raja visited Nilgiris district and consoled families of those killed in the rain-related incidents. He further assured all help from the party.
The leader of opposition in the State assembly distributed blankets and other relief materials to the affected people in Gudalur and Pandalur areas. It has also been reported that Stalin would visit other rain-hit areas and places where huge crop loss has been reported.
