Chennai: Tamilnadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has said the plan to link the Godavari and Cauvery rivers would be fulfilled by his government.
He was speaking to reporters this morning after opening the sluice gates of the Mettur dam for irrigation purposes.
Palaniswami also said check-dams were being constructed across rivers and streams to prevent rainwater from going waste.
With the opening of the Mettur dam, the Chief Minister said 45,000 acres of agricultural land would benefit in Namakkal, Erode and Salem.
As there was heavy rainfall in the catchment areas of the Cauvery, the Mettur dam filled up fast and today reached 100 ft.
Palaniswami said with good inflow, the dam is expected to reach its full storage capacity of 120 ft; so, water would be released at regular intervals to enable cultivation in the delta regions of the State soon.
