Dhanshika’s new film set in pre-Independent India

Actress Sai Dhanshika, who was last seen in Kaalakoothu in Tamil has signed on to play a vital role in S P Jananathan’s Laabam, featuring Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathi and Shruti Haasan in lead roles.

Talking about her character in the film, she said, ‘It is an author-backed role and contributes to the film’s story graph.When Jananathan approached me for Laabam, I told him that I don’t even need a narration. I blindly trust him for the way he has churned out content for his previous films. He has given me confidence to such level that I have been pitching in with my inputs on the sets.’

The film revolves around the livelihood of farmers since pre-independence era. It is jointly produced by Vijay Sethupathi Productions and 7CS Entertainment. Ramji cranks the camera. D Imman will composes the music.

The actress says that audience acceptance of women-centric films of late has been encouraging. ‘Such film have increased in recent times and have gone to become successful ventures at the box-office. When an artiste is a part of a socially-responsible film, they do not have to worry about the characters’ prominence. Laabam will be one such movie,’ she adds.
