Alumni of Thiru-Vi-Ka school plan gala celebrations in Chennai

Chennai: Many old students of Thiru-Vi-Ka Higher Secondary School at Shenoy Nagar are rendering yeomen service to their school. The students of 1973 batch of took initiative to form alumni named as Thiru-Vi-Ka HSS (Chennai) Alumni in the year 2007 and registered it in 2009.

Speaking to News Today, D Vadivel, general secretary of Alumni, said, “I like to thank our Alumni founders N Kumaraguruparan and Elango. It was started in a small way with an objective to assist the students of the school in various aspects of grooming and helping them. Independence Day is the day for our alumni, we celebrate our annual day on this day along with students and teachers. This year is tenth anniversary of association, we are releasing a souvenir and planning grand celebrations.”

“The school management is very supportive to us in rendering our service to the students. Most of students studying in our school are from low and middle income group covering Aminjikarai, Shenoy Nagar, Arumbakkam and its surroundings. Every year, we provide scholarship to students. This year we are providing Rs 2000 for 20 poor students as financial assistance towards school fee and to buy study materials. We are also presenting memento and certificates to all students who stood first and second from class VI to XII. We are providing special coaching for 10th and 12th students,” he added.

He also mentioned that the contribution made by alumni is being maintained as a fixed deposit by the trustees of the school and contributes the interest income thus generated towards the school fee for poor students every year.

“Initially with assistance and effort of one of our alumni member, a website has been launched in the name and style of ‘’ with an objective of collecting all our school friends spread across the globe. At present there were 800 members in our alumni. We are trying to find more friends to become member of alumni. We are inviting old boys of Thiru-Vi-Ka School for the celebrations,” the secretary said.
