Baby born as mom goes into labour during Athi Varadar darshan

Vimala and her baby are doing fine after the delivery.

Chennai: Amidst the chaos surrounding hordes of people thronging Kanchipuram to get a glimpse of Lord Athi Varadar, Vimala, one of the devotees who visited the Sri Varadaraja Perumal temple today, was delivered of a healthy male baby, weighing 3 kg, at the 16-pillar mandapam.

A native of Nemilipanavaram, the 25-year-old pregnant woman, wife of Ashok Kumar, went into labour while waiting in the queue for the darshan and she was rushed by the devotees to the medical team deployed at the mandapam.

With the help of Dr Jansirani S and nurse Yogavalli, Vimala was delivered of a male baby at the 16-pillar mandapam itself. She was later shifted to Kanchipuram Government District Hospital.

Devotees have requested the couple to name the baby after Aadi Athi Varadar, as he was born during the rare vaibhavam that happens once in 40 years.

Today was the 45th day of Athi Varadar darshan and the vaibhavam concludes on the 48th day when the idol would be returned to the temple tank, to be taken out only after 40 years.
