Chennai: There was a surprise devotee-visitor to the Kanchipuram Sri Varadaraja Perumal Temple last night for a darshan of Athi Varadar: Superstar Rajinikanth.
According to reports, Rajinikanth arrived with his wife and other family members around 12.30 am today. He was accorded temple honours. The Superstar and his wife sat before the Athi Varadar idol and worshipped Him.
The police had stepped up security in the vicinity of the temple to enable him to have a hassle-free darshan. Many in the crowd, waiting for darshan, also had a glimpse of Rajinikanth and enthusiastically waved to him.
Today marks the 45th day of Athi Varadar darshan, after the idol was kept in the Vasanth Mandapam of the temple on 1 July. For the first 31 days, He was seen in sayana thirukolam (reclining posture) and from 1 August, in ninra thirukolam (standing pose).
The deity will be returned to the temple tank, from where he will be taken out after 40 years.
