Chennai: The 48-day Athi Varadar vaibhavam at Sri Varadarajaswamy temple in Kanchipuram ended Friday.
Those who have missed the darshan of the Almighty in Kanchipuram, can now visit Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple at Pillayar Kovil Street, Jafferkhanpet, where a replica of Athi Varadar is being kept for worship till Monday.
“Senior citizens and people with serious illness couldn’t go to Kanchipuram and stand in the long queues to worship Athi Varadar. In order to help them, we have kept a replica here to satisfy them,” said Palani, a volunteer of the temple.
“On Wednesday (14 August), we arranged for the idol to be worshipped in sayana thirukolam and from Saturday night to Monday, the idol will be in ninra thirukolam,” Palani added.
He further said this is the 90th Aadi festival in the temple and special poojas will be performed daily in the evening and other events like music, temple procession are scheduled for the coming days.
“This is an excellent initiative and people who couldn’t go to Kanchipuram due to old age can visit here,” said Sridhar of Jafferkhanpet.
