Fake cops try to extort money, arrested at Avadi, near Chennai

Chennai: Two persons have been arrested for attempting to extort money from a Town Planning Officer at Avadi, near here, by posing as anti-corruption officers.

According to the police, at 3.30 pm Friday, two men, identified as Mohan Raj (38), a land broker from Ayapakkam, and Velayudham (47) from Vijayalakshmipuram, Red Hills, claimed to be working in the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption. They demanded money from Subbudhai (45), a Town Planning Officer for Chennai Corporation.

Subbudhai alerted the police, who took the fake cops into custody.

The duo has been booked for impersonation and criminal offence.
