Chennai: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has forecast moderate rain in the State for the next 24 hours.
Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre’s Area Cyclone Warning Centre director Puviyarasan said there are chances of heavy rain in Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Kanchipuram, Cuddalore, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Pudukottai, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Nagapattinam and Villupuram districts.
He further said there will be mild rain in Chennai for the next 24 hours. It has been raining intermittently in the city from last night and at times it was heavy. It was raining at several parts of the city including areas like Guindy, Kodambakkam, Anna Salai, Nandambakkam, Porur, Ekattuthangal, Madipakkam and Velacheri. There was also moderate rain in Poonamallee, Avadi, Ambattur, Koyambedu, Ayanavaram, Meenambakkam, Nanganallur and Saidapet.
Met officials have also said it will rain at night for the next couple of days. The rain has brought down the heat in Chennai city.
The sluice gates of Kallanai dam was opened for irrigation today. Ministers Dorai Kannu, C Vijayabaskar, Kamaraj, Vellamandi Natarajan, Valarmathi and O S Manian were present.
After opening of the Kallanai dam, 1,000 cusecs of water is released into the Cauvery, and the same amount to Vennaaru and Kollidam and 500 cusecs into the Kallanai culvert.
Collectors of Tiruchy, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Pudukottai and Cuddalore and PWD officials were present on the occasion.
