Why DMK, MDMK remained silent over STs issue in J&K: Ponnar

Coimbatore: After Article 370 was scrapped in Jammu and Kashmir, opposition political parties in Tamilnadu such as DMK and MDMK voiced against the move. Responding to this, BJP leader Pon Radhakrishnan questioned why the party leaders had kept quite over plight of Scheduled Tribes in J&K for the last 72 years.

The two parties are known to be vocal about social justice and women’s rights but had remained silent on this issue, slammed the former Union Minister while speaking to reporters at Mettupalayam. In Kashmir, Scheduled Tribes were deprived of concessions and benefits and women were not given equal rights.

These parties are betraying the people of the country on the Kashmir issue, he slammed. He further claimed there has been no development in the valley due to the special status and instead had provided red carpet welcome to terrorists.

“Let DMK raise questions on all of those who benefited by the special status in Kashmir,” he said. By abrogating Article 370, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has created a new India, he said.
