Chennai: US Ambassador Kenneth I Juster commemorated the 50th anniversary of the US Consulate General building in Chennai Tuesday.
He was joined by State Minister for Tamil Official Language and Tamil Culture K Pandiarajan, Chennai historian V Sriram, US Consul General Robert Burgess and distinguished guests and patrons of the American Centre in Chennai.
Held on the eve of the 380th founding of Madras, the event celebrated the longstanding cultural, educational, and commercial ties between the United States and South India, a press release said.
Ambassador Juster inaugurated a photo exhibit depicting 50 years of US diplomatic engagement and cultural exchanges. The Ambassador also honoured Chennai’s famed chronicler S Muthiah, dedicating a collection of his books for permanent display in the American Centre.
The US Consulate General in Chennai invites the public to visit the American Centre at Gemini Circle and tour its 50th anniversary historical photo exhibit and the new ‘S Muthiah Collection’ along with the Centre’s collection of 14,000 books, magazines, online catalogs, and movies – one of the largest collections of American Studies materials in South Asia.
Public can visit between 9.30 am and 5 pm, from Monday to Friday.
