Chennai: The Election Commission of India has introduced Electors Verification Programme (EVP) for having a complete error free electoral rolls. There will be special summary revision of photo electoral rolls with 1 January 2020 as the qualifying date.
Accordingly, the programme starts 1 September and ends 30 September. During the programme, the citizens are encouraged to come forward and authenticate existing elector’ s details relating thereto, by giving copy of one of the following documents – Indian Passport, driving license, aadhar, ration card, PAN card, birth certificate issued by Municipal Authorities or district office of the Registrar of Births & Deaths or Baptism certificate, birth certificate from the school (Govt/ Recognised), if a person is class 10 or more pass, he should give a copy of the marksheet of class 10, if it contains date of birth as a proof of date of birth, marksheet of class 8 if it contains date of birth, marksheet of class 5 if it contains date of birth, bank / Kisan / Post Office current pass book, Income Tax return filed or Assessment Order, latest water / telephone / electricity / gas connection bill for that address, either in the name of the applicant or that of his / her immediate relation like parents etc, Postal departments posts received / delivered in the applicants name at the given address.
The citizens can verify their electoral details through ‘Voter helpline’ mobile app, NVSP portal, by visiting Common Service Centres (CSCs) or submitting a hard copy of filled up forms through their BLOs to Electoral Registration Officers. Information/details of un-enrolled citizens/dead shifted electors will be collected during house-to-house verification by BLOs. The citizens may utilize the facility for making necessary updation of their details in the electoral rolls through above mentioned sources, an official press release said.
