Red alert sounded in TN as 6 terrorists ‘infiltrate’ into State

Chennai: Tamilnadu has been put on high alert after the Central Intelligence Bureau alerted DGP J K Tripathy about a threat from terrorists who are believed to have infiltrated into the State from Sri Lanka.

The police have also released the picture of a suspected terrorist who is among the six said to be in hiding in Coimbatore.

Security has been particularly tightened in Coimbatore as also Chennai, Erode and Kanyakumari.

Police personnel are checking the baggage of all passengers in Coimbatore station and there is tight security at Coimbatore airport. They could be seen peering into even lunch bags of people using two-wheelers on the roads.

According to Chennai Commissioner of Police A K Viswanathan, there has been thorough checking of vehicles in the metropolis from last night.

The six terrorists are believed to have links with the Easter Sunday bombings in Sri Lanka and it is surmised that they must have come through the sea route into Tamilnadu.
