Chennai: CBI today said it will file a detailed report on 16 September about the present status of investigation being conducted into the police firing during the protests against Sterlite copper smelting plant in Thoothukudi 22 May last year.
According to reports, in the response filed by the Commission of Inquiry headed by former Madras High Court judge Aruna Jagadeesan, it is said several documents are being collected from various department and investigation is going on at full swing.
“CCTV footages have been sent for inspections. Inquiries were carried out with family members of those who lost their lives. The role of police, revenue officials and protesters during the riot is also being investigated,” CBI said.
The committee submitted its response today after the Madras High Court Justices T S Sivagnanam and V Bhavani Subbaroyan sought to know the progress made by the Commission constituted by the state government. The questions were raised during the hearing of a batch of 10 writ petitions filed by natural resources company Vedanta Limited.
