Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami today ordered release of water from Periyar and Vaigai dams for irrigation purpose.
In a statement here, he said the water will be released from the Periyar dam for 120 days from 29 August.
The water will be beneficial for irrigation of 14,707 acres lands in Theni district.
Palaniswami also ordered the release of water from Vaigai dam from 29 August for 120 days.
This water will be utilised for irrigation purpose of 45,041 acres in Madurai and Dindugul districts.
He asked farmers to utilise the water without wastage, yield good returns and help in water management.
