Chennai: A woman who was sleeping on the pavement was assaulted by a man who tried to rob her gold chain last night.
According to police, Shanthi (50), wife of Jaya Gopi, worked as a flower vendor. A resident of Nattan Thottam, Mylapore, she slept on the pavement close to Sai Baba temple during the night.
Yesterday, at 11.30 pm, a man she identified as Amaran tried to snatch her gold chain while she was asleep. Shanthi, police said, resisted and pushed Amaran away. He took a wooden log and attacked her.
She was subsequently rushed to a hospital. She suffered injuries on her left ear. Shanthi lodged a police complaint against Amaran. Mylapore police are inquiring the case.
