Chennai: A total of 41,131 passengers have utilised the share auto and share taxi facilities at the Metro rail stations in August. Of them, 4,763 people have opted for share taxi and 36,368 for share autos.
According to a CMRL press release, as many as 4,86,205 passengers have utilised the above facilities between 11 August 2018 and 31 August 2019.
CMRL had undertaken an initiative of providing several last mile connectivity measures for the Metro passengers among which share auto and share taxi feeder services are plying at selected Metro rail stations on a trial basis since 11 August 2018.
A total of seven Metro stations were identified for share auto feeder service.
The services are running on the designated feeder routes with a flat tariff of Rs 5.
Similarly, the share taxi feeder services are planned for select Metro rail stations. It covers an area up to 3 km radius with a flat tariff of Rs 10.
In addition to the above facilities, CMRL had also tied up with M/s. Bengaluru Mega cabs private limited for providing feeder services at
Nandhanam, AGDMS, Thousand Lights, LIC, Government Estate and Chennai Central Metro stations from 5 August through an app based system developed by Ford Mobility.
The feeder operation route covers a distance of 6-8 km from each of the stations at a flat rate of Rs 10. The ticketing collection system for this service is also integrated with Chennai Metro Smart Card system and Chennai Metro Rail mobile app system.
A total of 4,987 passengers have used the facility. The services will be extended to all other metro stations shortly, the release said.
