Chennai: A murder accused who was on bail was stabbed to death at Villivakkam in the wee hours of today.
According to the police, Baskar (42) of Balaramapuram, Villivakkam worked as a car driver. At 12.15 am, he was walking near his home when unknown persons covered his face with a cloth, used a spray on his face and stabbed him. The police arrived to the spot and rushed him to the hospital. He passed away at 3 am.
Some 100-feet-away from the crime scene, the police found the weapon used for murder. His body was sent to Government Kilpauk Hospital for post mortem.
After preliminary inquiries, police found that Baskar was killed to avenge the death of Puthiyavan (51), for whom Baskar worked as driver for five years.
Puthiyavan was the general secretary of All India Other Backward Classes (AIOBC) and worked in the mechanical department of Carriage works, ICF.
Few months ago, Baskar asked for a railway job for his brother and Puthiyavan demanded Rs 5 lakh for getting the job. However, Puthiyavan failed to get the job, and Baskar, along with his friend alleged to have murdered him in February. He was sent to jail and had come out on bail.
Police suspect, Puthiyavan’s family to have murdered Baskar as part of revenge.
Further inquiries are underway.
