Man with terror links held in Chennai

Chennai: A man who is allegedly involved in a 2013 terror attack has been arrested at Thoraipakkam here. According to the police, the man has been identified as Sheikh Azadullah (35).

He was arrested from a house at Anna Nagar First Street, Thoraipakkam and it is said he worked as a labourer here for five years.

He was taken to Neelankarai police station where senior police officials arrived for inquiries. Azadullah is wanted by both the Anti-Terrorism Squad and West Bengal police, sources said.

Following his arrest yesterday, a special team of police from Delhi arrived in the city to take him into custody for further inquiry.

Azadullah is said to have knowledge about the Bodh Gaya bombings happened on 7 July 2013 which left five persons injured. He was also said to be in touch with persons who are accused in a terror attack in Kolkatta.

Recently, the investigation team got his mobile phone number and traced him to Thoraipakkam which led to his arrest. Sources said, “Azadullah seems to be a Bangladesh migrant and spoke in Hindi.”
