TN CM inaugurates ‘unavu thirvizha’ in Chennai

Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami sipping a traditional drink at the inauguration of food festival at the Island Grounds in Chennai today.

Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami today said people are more disease prone these days due to the reduction in the intake of traditional foods.

Speaking after inaugurating the ‘Madarasapattinam virundhu – vaanga rasikalam, rusikalam’ at the Island Grounds here, he said people should consume traditional food and also do exercises on a regular basis.

“People should realise that healthy life is wealthy life and if health is lost everything is lost. The Fit India scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will help in the enhancement of the health of the people. We should eat only when we are hungry. This will ensure that we stay healthy. People are affected by diabetes, Blood Pressure and heart related diseases at an early age these days,” he added.

Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam who was also present during the event said people should prefer natural drinks such as tender coconut and buttermilk.

“Foreign cool drinks should be avoided. It is the duty of the government to ensure that people get quality food,” he said.
The festival organised by the Health and Family Welfare Department along with Food Safety Department will be conducted for three days till Sunday (15 September) from 11 am to 8 pm. As many as 160 stalls have been setup at the event.
