Two held for cricket betting in Chennai

Chennai: Two persons have been arrested by the city police for organising a betting on a Premier League cricket match. After a raid, police seized Rs 53 lakh, three mobile phones, three laptops and two currency counting machines.

According to police, based on a tip off, they arrested two persons for facilitating betting for the Caribbean Premier League 2019.

An unidentified person informed the police that his relative had lost Rs 30 lakh to betting. A four-member police team led by Assistant Commissioner Maheswari arrested Rahul Jain and Dinesh Kumar from a commercial complex in Choolai. One person allegedly fled the spot.

Further inquires are underway.
