Cinematographer Prasanna: ‘Quality matters the most for me’

Chennai: Prasanna S Kumar, a former associate of Ranthavelu, P G Muthiah and Kumaravelan, is happy as his work in the recently-released Sivappu Manjal Pachai has won appreciation from movie-buffs. Directed by Sasi, the movie starred Siddharth and GV Prakash in the lead roles.

An admirer of Balu Mahendra films, Prasanna has made a name for himself capturing street visuals with clarity. Speaking to News Today about working with Sasi, Prasanna says, “I thank Sasi for introducing me with his movie Pichaikkaran. Sivappu Manjal Pachai has taken me close to all. Sasi wants to portray visuals closer to reality. Even if you suggest grand locations, he would prefer only close-ups.”

On challenges working for Sivappu Manjal Pachai, Prasanna says, “It is a story of a traffic policeman and an illegal street race biker. We were to shoot several scenes on the roads of Chennai. The most challenging were the three important race and chase scenes shot in eight days. We can’t keep the camera on the road. So, we decided to shoot candidly. We would ask Siddharth and GV Prakash to start chase scenes as early as 5.30 am when there’s hardly any traffic and follow them candidly in a speeding car. We shot in Ashok Nagar and Guindy in the city and in Pondicherry.” Quality matters the most for me. I want to do full justice to my work, he adds.
