Government holds meet on issues related to sugar industry

Chennai: A meeting on ‘Issues relating to Sugar Industry and Cane Growers of Tamilnadu’ was convened by DFS, Ministry of Finance recently here in the city. The meeting was chaired by Additional Secretary, Banking, DFS, Pankaj Jain.

Joint Secretary DFS, Suchindra Mishra and Joint Secretary (Sugars), Department of Food and Public Administration also attended. Other participants included Agricultural Production Commissioner and Principal Secretary to Government of Tamil Nadu, Gagandeep Singh Bedi, Chief General Manager, Reserve Bank of India, Chennai and MD and CEOs of Indian Bank, Canara Bank and Indian Overseas Bank.

A press release said, there were also participants of senior officials from Agricultural Department, representatives from South Indian Sugar Mills Association (SISMA) and farmers.Gagandeep Bedi, welcomed the gathering, elaborated on the issues relating to sugar mills and cane growers. The Commissioner of Sugar then made a presentation on the issues around Minimum Support Price (MSP), Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) and bank lending to sugar mills and farmers.
